Donald Vernick, 83, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.
Donald was born in Indianapolis on October 3, 1933, the son of Guss and LaVerne (Taylor) Vernick, and attended Emmerich Manual High School.
Mr. Vernick served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Stark and Wetzel Meat Packing Plant for 19 years then worked for Navistar for 20 years until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid fisherman, outdoors enthusiast and family man.

Donald was born in Indianapolis on October 3, 1933, the son of Guss and LaVerne (Taylor) Vernick, and attended Emmerich Manual High School.
Mr. Vernick served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Stark and Wetzel Meat Packing Plant for 19 years then worked for Navistar for 20 years until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid fisherman, outdoors enthusiast and family man.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Joyce Vernick; six children, Kennette Worthington, Ron Vernick, (wife-Mary), Donnette Kuhn, Tom Vernick, Michelle Straber, (husband-Gary), and Steve Stackhouse, (wife-Kim); two brothers, Bob Vernick and Jerry Thornton; twenty grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son; a brother; and two sisters.
Services will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Portland Mills Christian Church with Craig Thuma officiating. Burial will follow in Portland Mills Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service.
