Charles Samuel Shaner Jr., 81, of Franklin passed away at Franklin United Methodist Community on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

Charles was born in Greencastle on July 10, 1935, the son of Charles Samuel and Elizabeth (Varvel) Shaner Sr., and was a graduate of Greencastle High School. He also completed four years of Vocational School.

Mr. Shaner proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 23, the National Knife Collectors Association, VanBibber Lake Lions Club, and attended Putnamville Baptist Church. He was employed for 32...

Charles was born in Greencastle on July 10, 1935, the son of Charles Samuel and Elizabeth (Varvel) Shaner Sr., and was a graduate of Greencastle High School. He also completed four years of Vocational School.

Mr. Shaner proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 23, the National Knife Collectors Association, VanBibber Lake Lions Club, and attended Putnamville Baptist Church. He was employed for 32 years as a Machine Repairman with G. M. Truck and Bus in Indianapolis.

Survivors include his former wife, Wanda Shaner; two children, Connie Wallace, (husband-Randy), Helotes, Texas, and Charles Joseph Shaner, Port Charlotte, Florida; three grandchildren, Brittanie, Kati, and Sara; a great-grandson, Rohan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and David Shaner; and a sister, Joan Irwin.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
